I grew up in the 1000 Islands Region of New York state and moved to the GTA in 2010 to be closer to my wife’s family in Hamilton. My time practicing in this region has been incredibly fulfilling and I grow to love the region more and more each day.
I completed my undergraduate studies at the State University of New York at Oswego in 2004, receiving my Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences and completing the Honours Program there. Following my years in Oswego, I moved to Boston, Massachusetts where I received my Doctor of Optometry degree from the prestigious New England College of Optometry in 2009. The clinical experiences and lifelong friends (and wife) that I gained while in Boston remain invaluable.
My fourth-year rotations sent me from coast to coast and exposed me to a great variety of clinical settings. My training focused on fitting specialty contact lenses and co-managing LASIK patients in Atlanta, Georgia; managing complicated ocular diseases including glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy at Veteran Affairs Hospitals in Hudson Valley, New York and Portland, Oregon; as well as caring for an under-served population at Boston’s Upham’s Corner Community Health Center. Following graduation, I was privileged enough to be accepted into the Ocular Disease Residency Program at the Boston Veteran’s Affairs Hospital System where I was able to further enhance my knowledge regarding the treatment glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration and many other ocular conditions. During this time I worked closely with some globally-renowned specialists in the fields of glaucoma, retina and corneal diseases. I was also involved in the mentoring and teaching of 3rd and 4th-year optometry students, as well as the handling of urgent cases that were referred from the hospital system’s emergency rooms.
I feel very privileged to be a part of Dr. Fink’s team and look forward to helping her continue providing Burlington with the best eye care possible.
